| Ask the Librarian |
The Library provides a full range of information services to the St. Elizabeth Medical Center community including hospital employees, affiliated physicians, medical residents and students, patients and their families, volunteers, and the public. A professional librarian staffs the library Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.
We have a mostly clinically focused collection of about 80 journals, most of which are kept for 10 years. Journals must be used in the library. The books in our circulating collection may be checked-out by employees and staff members only.
The Medical library provides a number of services to assist users to not only find but also obtain materials. Library users can use our print collection or online electronic resources we have available to identify specific books and journal articles to answer their questions. Many of these resources are available for staff to use via computers thoughout the hospital as well as remotely from home or office.
Searching may be done by library users themselves or the librarian can perform the search. If you are interested in learning how to do your own searching on any of the databases, please give the librarian a call to set up an appointment. The Library has some of the articles needed in full-text and the Medical Library also has cooperative document delivery arrangements with libraries around the world.
For patients/families and the public, we have a selection of electronic resources available as well as a small print consumer health collection. Please call ahead to confirm the availability of the librarian and set up an appointment or use the “Ask the Librarian” feature to have information packets mailed to conveniently to you.
The “Ask the Librarian” Button can also be used to ask for any type of information question: research, literature search, an article request, drug information, complementary medicine, consumer health.
We have a quiet study area with computers, tables and study carrels. There is also a more relaxed area with sofa, lounger and chairs where you can browse magazines and relax. WiFi is available in the Library.
The Medical Library is located on the first floor of the Medical Center, in the corridor behind the Admitting Desk, the last door on the left through the two exit/fire doors. view map
